History 

The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) was founded in 1971 through the integration of the Higher Technical Schools that were part of the Higher Polytechnic Institute. The following year, the University Schools joined the institution. However, the origins of the UPM date back to much earlier times. The teachings of most of the Centres were implemented during the reign of Charles III, in the XNUMXth century.

At the beginning of the 1802th century, the School of Civil Engineers was founded (XNUMX) thanks to the initiative of Agustín de Bethencourt.   • Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers

These were joined by the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences-INEF, at the University City, and the Faculty of Computer Science (now the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineers) at the Montegancedo Campus.
