How to study at a Spanish university as an Argentine?

The first thing you should know is that in order to enter a university in Spain it is necessary to meet a series of requirements, which we will explain in the next point. We will start by saying that there are two types of universities: public and private. The public ones require, for the most part, to obtain a score in exams called Specific Competence Tests (PCE). These exams can be taken in Argentina, so you could avoid travel costs and only travel to Spain if your grade is optimal. Private universities require fewer requirements (sometimes not even an exam), but are more expensive.

Therefore, the essential thing before starting this process is to know What university do you want to study at? given the steps to follow and the requirements in each case.

Requirements to study in Spain being Argentine

  • Finish pre-university studies (secondary).
  • Initiate and, in some cases, complete the process of homologation of Argentine studies.
  • Register for the PCE exams (for public universities).
  • Take the PCE exams and obtain a valid grade for the desired degree (for public universities).
  • Complete university registration.
  • Have current and legal identity documentation.
  • Process the visa through the acceptance letter from the university.

When can I start Spanish studies?

You can start this process whenever you want. It is normal to start a year in advance, since you must have time to legalize the documents and study and present the required evidence. The approval process can last from 5 to 9 months. The exams, depending on the university's requirements, may be of a medium-high level that will require hours of study to achieve the highest grade.

To give you an idea, university degrees start in September. University registration takes place in July, with exams in May/June. Therefore, the beginning of this process must take place, at the latest, in January of the same year, and it would be beneficial to begin it even in September of the previous year, as we have mentioned, in order to have all the documentation perfectly legalized and prepared.

What documents are necessary to study in Spain?

  1. Valid passport.
  2. Flyer of approval of the studies or document that certifies the completion of the process.
  3. Acceptance letter from the destination university.
  4. Study visa. This is requested from the Spanish consulate, where they will require the following 2 points.
  5. Health insurance.
  6. Document that proves a residence address in Spain.
  7. When you are in Spain, you will have to apply for the TIE (Identification Card for Foreigners). This procedure is carried out at any police station or at an Immigration Office (by appointment). The TIE does not allow you to work, although there may be exceptions.
